Paying with your virtual Payhawk card

The virtual Payhawk cards are intended for online payments.

However, as a virtual card can be added to Google Wallet or Apple Pay, you may be required to your PIN code when you pay greater amounts at POS terminals. The amount for which you may be required to provide the PIN code in such cases depends on the contactless limit defined by the specific merchant. For more information about where to find your PIN code, see the article on locating the PIN code of your Payhawk corporate card.

To access the data related to your virtual Payhawk card:

  1. Go to the Payhawk mobile app.

  2. Tap Cards

Paying with your physical Payhawk card

The physical Payhawk corporate cards are intended for executing both online and POS payments such as company-related in-store purchases or your business trips abroad.

When using your physical Payhawk corporate card, note the following specifics:

  • To be able to process payments with your physical Payhawk card, you must have activated it from the Payhawk mobile app first.

  • The first payment with your physical Payhawk card cannot be contactless. When you pay with your physical Payhawk card for the first time, your card has to be inserted into the POS slot for manual card reading and you have to manually enter your PIN code. Otherwise, you will not be able to execute the payment even though the card will appear active on the Payhawk mobile app.

  • You may be required to enter your PIN code when paying greater amounts as contactless payments with your physical Payhawk card. The amount for which you may be required to enter your PIN code in such cases depends on the contactless limit defined by the specific merchant.

For more information about where to find your PIN code, see the article on locating the PIN code of your Payhawk corporate card.

Do not share your card details, including its full number, with anyone.

Paying at self-service gas stations

When you use your Payhawk card at a self-service gas station, the usual practice for merchants is to block the maximum amount at the time of transaction. However, when the transaction is settled, the merchant will have drawn only the actual amount of the purchase and the remaining funds will be released back to your card and added to its balance.

Usually, the settlement takes three days for the merchant to complete. In rare cases, it may take a little longer.

Paying for accommodation and car rentals

When you use your Payhawk card to pay for hotels and car rentals, the hold on your funds may last for 30 or even 45 days before it is released. Once the authorization of the transaction is completed by the merchant, the expense will no longer appear on your Expenses list in Payhawk.

The transaction authorization process is controlled by the merchant and Payhawk cannot expedite it. However, you can contact the merchant directly to inquire about the possibility of a faster resolution.
